How Would Jesus Live My Life?
Serve your community, change your world
This is a very cool quote taken from the book, "Seeking God's Face":
"God who is very near, You never insist we show our spiritual mettle by going on epic journeys; we're never asked to accomplish heroic feats to prove our worthiness. You've given us no ladder to climb up to your heavenly heights, because You came near to us. Help us grasp the life You offer in the One who came down from heaven for us and our salvation. Amen"

It's pretty exciting! There are going to be a few new groups starting this fall to help us grow as followers of Jesus. (who couldn't use a little more growth?)
You'll hear about some of them later on but I'm pretty pumped about this one...
Michele and I are going to be starting a group using materials from a group called Renovare. We will start with God Views. Here's what Renovare has to say about it:

God Views is a video-based curriculum that helps us re-explore our understanding of God. It is the first installment of a four-part Curriculum of Christlikeness series designed to facilitate the experience of authentic transformation that also includes Renovation of the Heart, Celebration of Discipline, and Streams of Living Water (other titles in the series sold separately).
Hey, I just wanted the times and locations for the Weenie Wagon posted on the web site:
"Everyone of them is Jesus in disguise" ~Mother Teresa This Sunday we have the sacred privilege of serving our community in the name of Jesus. Not only that but Jesus tells us in Matthew 25:40: "'when you (served) one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to Me!' " I think that's why Mother Teresa called the folks that she served in the slums of Calcutta, "Jesus in disguise". As we get ready to go out and serve this Sunday I'd like to challenge us to pray that we can begin to see the people we serve as "Jesus in disguise". Let's love them and be gracious to them and let's realize that we're not just raking, or baking, or cleaning, or repairing, or paying for laundry, but rather these things are a holy opportunity to demonstrate to these precious folks the hope of the universal reign of God in Christ!
To whom are you called? It's a weird question, I know, but we're all called somewhere and if God has called us there, then I guess we should figure out where "there" is. It might be a neighborhood, or a certain group of people (skaters, single moms, kids, people struggling with substance abuse, etc.)
My challenge to all of us this week is to pray and ask God one simple question, "Who have You called me to serve?" And then listen to what He tells you and look for the answer in your passions, what breaks your heart, or what makes you angry (those will often tell you where your calling is). Then GO to those people and ANNOUNCE and DEMONSTRATE the Kingdom of God to them...even if it's just across the street. It will change their lives and yours.
